For Fastpitch Softball Pitchers
Rotational pitching or “IR” (internal rotation) is a style of pitching where the hips and legs generate the power. Arms and the upper half remain loose and relaxed while the hips and legs rotate and drive toward the plate creating whip, increasing spin and break, and yes, increasing velocity as well. At BCA, all of my pitching instructors teach the rotational style to every level- from our rookies to our collegiate pitching staff. The rotational style is based on functional movements, meaning it’s a more natural movement for the body. Training at BCA involves a combination of movement training, strength and power, and specific pitching drills and progressions to facilitate the development of this complicated movement.
